Default Students get help in transition to college

Al Ain: "Together for success" is the theme of the orientation programme for some 600 new students at Al Ain Women's College (AAWC).

The institution opens on August 31 for the new academic year. The three-day orientation programme will start from Sunday.

Brent Mills, director of the AAWC, and Maria McGuire, Dean of the College, will welcome the students, said a spokeswoman.

The programme, she said, includes an introduction to academic programmes available at the college, a discussion of academic expectations, and identification of available support services.

Students will be taken on a tour of the campus and encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities to enhance their self-confidence and improve their skills. A panel of graduates will also hold discussion on students' experiences at the college.

The spokeswoman said the aim of the programme is to ease the transition from secondary to post secondary studies for students and help them be more comfortable on their first day of college.

The AAWC provides students with an up-to-date faculty, equipment and laboratories to ensure success in their programme of choice, she said, adding that the college would commence for all new and returning students on Sunday August 31.
