DUBAI — The Federal National Council will ask the Minister of Culture and Youth and Community Development Abdurrahman Al Owais who is also Head of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare what he thinks are the reasons for the debacle of the UAE Olympic team in Beijing, KT has learnt.
The minister will also been asked to give his recommendations for UAE athletes at the first session of the FNCC scheduled for November. UAE Athletes did not pickup any medals at the Beijing Olympics.
UAE overcome Kuwait
DUBAI — Defending champions UAE produced a superb display to overcome Kuwait 3-2 in the AGCC Junior Volleyball Championship in Manama on Tuesday. The victory enhanced UAE's chances of retaining the title as their closest challengers, Bahrain, narrowly went down 3-2 to Saudi Arabia on the same day. The championship will now be determined between hosts, Bahrain, and UAE who play their last matches on Thursday. UAE will have to beat hapless Qatar while the Bahrainis take on Kuwait in the round-robin event. In case both teams won their last matches, the title would be determined on results during the championship.

DUBAI — Festa Entertainments in association with Iranian Sports Club Dubai are organising Copa Goa 2008, an all Goa inter village football tournament during the holy month of Ramadan. All matches will start at 4:45pm sharp. Festa Entertainments had organised a New Years EVE Ball dance on December 31 and a football tournament named Dubai Charity Cup in Goa at Candolimj grounds. The tournament was sponsored by Nabil Darbas of Emirates ICA, in aid of small children who have aids.
Ishaq prevails
AL AIN — FM Saeed Ishaq of Dubai defeated FM Khouri Ibrahim Mohamed of Abu Dhabi and became the sole leader with three points after the third round of President Cup Chess Championship in Al Ain. Other top board games ended in draws. FM Abdul Majeed Mohamad, FM Mohamed Houssein and FM Alhuwar Jasem of Sharjah, Ali Abdulkhaleq and FM Khouri Ahmed Abbas of Abu Dhabi and FM Othman A. Moussa of Dubai are half a point behind the leader. Saeed Ishaq defeated Khouri Ibrahim in 33 moves.
